The Scio Flyers are excited to have a great group of eight enthusiastic young flyers who have entered this year's UAS4STEM team challenge.
The team consists of a handful of our younger members and we are fortunate to have also recruited a few local high school students. This combination provides a nice mix of hands-on aviation experience and high school-level science education.
UAS4STEM is a drone engineering challenge like no other. Students work in a team to build, program, and fly a drone. It’s a competition for everyone, with both beginner and advanced divisions. As this is our first time competing, we've entered our team in the beginner division.
Top-scoring teams from the virtual preliminary competition, which runs during the last two weeks of April, will be invited to the in-person international championship competition at EAA’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, at the end of July.
The program costs consist of $1,800 in registration fees and approximately $3,200 to purchase the drone kit and related materials for one team to build and program a drone. Our initial fundraising goal is $10,000.
If the team makes it to the in-person championship competition, we may need additional funding for travel, food, and lodging ̶̶ but let's take it one step at a time!

Yes! The Scio Flyers Model Aviation Club has recently attained 503(c)3 status. Upon request, we will send you a receipt with the tax ID number when you donate. (If you donate online, you'll receive your receipt right away).
The Scio Flyers' annual income comes solely from membership fees. Our income is used for operating expenses (mostly the weekly mowing of the field). We usually break even, but there are no additional funds to help with a competition like this.
Science is an important aspect of model aviation and the Scio Flyers are pleased to be able to contribute to the STEM education of our young members by participating in activities such as the UAS4STEM challenge.
We couldn't do without the kind support of our members and friends. We appreciate your donations ̶̶ any amount counts! Thank you!!
